More than one million people hit the streets in defense of public education in Brazil on May 15. The mobilization now continues, as students and workers are holding new demonstrations today, May 30.

The rallies are a response to the 30-percent budget cut announced by the Brazilian government for federal universities, but demonstrators also protest against the pension overhaul proposed by the far-right Jair Bolsonaro administration, which attacks people’s right to retirement and favors the financial system.
