Boulos demands the identification of military police officers who tried to arrest him
Federal deputy candidate Guilherme Boulos (PSOL, São Paulo state) demanded the military police’s internal affairs office open an inquiry to identify the police officers that tried to arrest him last Sunday (25).
The arrest attempt happened after an argument between PSOL (Socialism and Liberty Party) campaigners and Free Brazil Movement (MBL, in Portuguese) campaigners. A MBL campaigner was allegedly attacked by PSOL campaigners after annoying Guilherme Boulos during a campaign activity in Paulista Avenue, downtown the city of São Paulo.
During the incident, the MBL campaigner walked toward police officers and accused Boulos of assault. Then, police officers tried to take Boulos to the police station. In the 4th Police District in Consolação, a police report was filed to deny that Boulos had assaulted the young man.
According to Boulos account on social media, police officers had allegedly tried to take him forcefully to a police station as a way to intimidate him. However, they were prevented from doing so by criminal lawyers who were there too. According to article 236 of Brazil’s Electoral Code, candidates for elective positions cannot be arrested in the 15 days before the election day.
