Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Tuesday (14) that the United States is planning to destroy the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.
The Turkish pipeline is the only channel for supplying Russian gas to Europe since the agreement to transport energy to EU countries via Ukraine ended on December 31, 2024.
According to Lavrov, such actions follow the same process as the Nord Stream pipeline and are explained by Washington's desire to eliminate competitors, including in the energy sector. The statement was made during a press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2024.
"The US does not tolerate competition in any sphere, including energy. They are recklessly supporting terrorist activities aimed at undermining the energy stability of the European Union," Lavrov said.
"They [the US] are inciting their Ukrainian clients to tear down the Turkish Stream pipeline after the Nord Stream pipeline," he added.
Last Saturday (11), the Russian Defense Ministry reported an attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack the Russkaya compressor station in the Krasnodar region, which supplies gas through the Turkish Stream pipeline.
Nine drones were launched against the station's infrastructure but were repelled by Russian air defense forces. The Defense Ministry said that the aim of the attack was Kyiv's desire to stop gas supplies to European countries.
