U.S. singer Beyoncé’s team has taken legal action over the unauthorized use of the song Survivor, composed by the artist and performed by her former group Destiny’s Child, in the teaser for Dark Horse, a biographical film about Jair Bolsonaro that is set to be released in 2026 and portrays the former president’s political career through a heroic lens.
The information was shared on Tuesday (9) by Brazilian Anderson Nick, project manager at BeyGood, the philanthropic organization maintained by Beyoncé, who often posts updates for fans.
“Thank you to everyone who DM’d saying that the song ‘Survivor’ was used in the trailer of the unnamable, ineligible, prisoner, coup-monger’s movie,” he wrote.
“Obviously the song was used without authorization, and legal measures are already underway so that it is removed as quickly as possible,” Nick added in an Instagram Stories post. He also referred to those responsible for the unauthorized use as “truly shameless.”
The hit by Destiny’s Child, released in 2001, was composed by Beyoncé, Anthony Dent and Mathew Knowles, and depicts a lyrical voice that survives despite adversity.
The film Dark Horse is written by federal right-wing congressman Mário Frias, directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, and stars actor Jim Caviezel as Bolsonaro. The release date has not yet been confirmed.
