About us
Brasil de Fato (BdF) is a communication vehicle founded by popular movements on January 25, 2003, during the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, with the aim of influencing the battle of ideas through journalism guided by a popular vision of Brazil and the world.
BdF circulated for over ten years as a national weekly print edition before the creation of its website in 2013. Alongside the new website, regional print editions began circulating for free in some of the country’s main cities. Currently, this network of regional newspapers operates in Bahia, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, and Rio Grande do Sul.
In 2014, BdF incorporated Notícias do Planalto Radio Agency (NP), which became Brasil de Fato Radio Agency.
Today, Brasil de Fato is a recognized multimedia news platform that has consolidated significant reach and influence over the years. With a website, radio content and partnerships, and extensive audiovisual production, BdF is present across the entire national territory and has a significant international presence, thanks also to partnerships with communication channels and foreign correspondents.
There are more than 522 radio stations spread across all Brazilian states that use our content, and we are present on 15 national TV stations and active on major social networks.
Our team consists of journalists and contributors from all over Brazil who are dedicated to providing quality information, promoting the debate of ideas, and fostering readers’ critical thinking. We produce journalism guided by the struggles of workers in Brazil and around the world.
We invite you to be part of this story. Support our campaigns, read our news, follow us on social media, share our content, and help build a different Brazil—one that is fairer, more sustainable, and more inclusive.
Brasil de Fato Editorial Principles:
To provide checked information with proven truthfulness that expresses the newspaper’s editorial line to the public.
To practice journalism that offers “a popular vision of Brazil and the world” in different languages and for as many people as possible.
To cultivate a plural space for public debate that contributes to the consolidation of democracy, human rights, and, above all, social justice.
To prioritize themes involving the struggle for rights, working-class causes, and the construction of alternatives for a fairer and more sustainable future.
To discuss a popular project for Brazil, leading readers to debate the state of capitalism in Brazil, its crisis, its challenges, and the solutions Brazilian society needs to adopt to solve the people’s problems.
To be a multiplatform journalistic vehicle that encompasses the breadth of events and issues across the country, with special attention to territories in conflict with the interests of big capital or agribusiness.
To express a vision of solidarity among peoples, maintaining international coverage guided by popular movements and organizations from around the world, focusing on the three continents of the Global South, highlighting anti-imperialist struggles and the contradictions of capitalism.
To use language that is easy to understand, without being sensationalist or trivializing the subjects addressed.
To identify and correct any errors in reporting, maintain internal correction mechanisms, and keep open channels for dialogue.
Despite an editorial line close to popular movements and aligned with the left of the political spectrum, to always leave room for opposing viewpoints.
